Visit Dunedin
The heritage feel of Dunedin is a legacy of the region's 1860s gold rush, which briefly turned the city into the industrial centre of New Zealand.
Visit Dunedin before or after cycling the Otago Rail Trail as mentioned in our previous video, or fly direct for a unique Otago holiday experience.
The City centre highlights include: the historic Railway Station, the settlers museum and art gallery. You must visit the world’s steepest street, Baldwin Street and check out the Botanic Gardens.
Ensure you spend time exploring the Otago Peninsula. Visit Larnach Castle that was built in 1871 – the only castle in Australasia. Privately owned and beautifully restored. A great exhibition of local history and magnificent views of the harbour from the roof top.
The Otago Peninsula is home to world famous marine wildlife: The Royal Albatross, the Yellow Eyed Penguin and the Blue Penguins. During peak season, bookings are essential to visit these birdlife in their habitat. You will also see many seals along this coastline.
One suggestion is to incorporate Dunedin into a South Island roadtrip itinerary. We have a range of accommodation options available to book, along with car hire and attraction tickets.
