Destinations
Croatia - Croatia is a country that people revisit time and time again. Whilst for many decades it has been, and remains a popular holiday destination for Europeans, it was relatively unexplored by most New Zealand holidaymakers until recently.
It is Croatia’s pristine coastline with clear water lapping into pretty pebble beaches and secluded coves and its 1,185 islands scattered along a 1,777 km coastline that make it a perfect place for sailing and enjoying the quality of the sea and air of the Adriatic.
The Adriatic Coast naturally draws travellers the world over and the reasons for going are very individual. Some are lured by the eternal lights of the Dalmatian cities against the crystal blue waters of the Adriatic Sea and some by the opportunity to meet new people and have new experiences.
But there is so much more to Croatia than the spectacular sea view – it is a true land of diversity offering culture buffs to walk the well trodden paths in search of master artworks while surrounded by grand architecture and threads frozen in time. Regional cuisine can satisfy every foodie passionately hunting for the ultimate in palate pleasure and then the great finds for the shopaholics who are in a category all of their own.
It could also be the abounds of history in Croatia with its well-preserved fortified towns encompassing centuries old buildings, its cities, parks, islands and lakes that UNESCO World Heritage has listed under protection, it’s narrow stone streets opening on to bustling squares dotted with popular restaurants that make it a popular choice to visit when planning a trip to Europe. Venture further and you will find groves of olives and fruit, vineyards, lavender fields, and small villages with red tile roofs. Mountains, lakes, rivers and forests all add to its charm. It is all the flavours of the Mediterranean atmosphere – the way it was, that invites one to spend and dabble time in.
This hot destination offers numerous possibilities to its visitors to discover its hidden treasures while sampling the Croatian way of life. A mosaic of fascinating cultures is evident in vibrant towns and scenic landscapes unfold as you travel through the country steeped in history and natural beauty.
Italy - Everything you have heard is true – all of it, even the bits about narrow little alleys that open onto lively marketplaces filled with figs, olives, pomegranates, rich goat cheeses and huge wheels of Parmesan, prosciutto and spicy salamis.
The architecture is overwhelmingly beautiful, magnificent, ancient and accessible. You really do get to wander through the original streets of Rome where past Caesars ruled. And yes, you will be able to roam the hills of Tuscany and have your lunch under the grapevines, taking in the wafting lavender.
Romance really was born on the romantic canal ways of Venice, where Gondoliers have serenaded lovers for centuries past. Feel the excitement when visiting the leather markets of Florence, or checking out the highest fashion houses of Milan – shopping is a true pleasure to be experienced in Italy.
Slovenia - Slovenia consists of vastly different geographical regions including a green oasis which stretches over more than 1,000 km2 and is covered with conifer forests, nestled between Italy and Croatia. It has the mighty but easily accessible Julian Alps, most of which are located in the Triglav National Park.
Slovenia is also famous for its mysterious Slovenian Karst which is said to be the most beautiful part of our planet’s underground world. Postojna Caves is part of this system and it is the most visited cave in Europe. This 2 million year old, 27km long underground cave is easily accessible, and a wonder to see. Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana is a romantic city with cobbled streets, fine architecture and a Medieval Castle.
Bordering Croatia, Italy, Austria and Hungary it is an inviting destination to visit while in Europe. Experience and explore a different and diverse way of life in this small and pristine country.
